David Warren Hurlburt of West Melbourne, Florida passed away on May 22, 2023, after a short stay at the William Childs Hospice in Palm Bay, Florida.
David was born in Nunda, NY on December 8, 1941, the day that WWII was declared. He was the son of Delbert and Mildred (Parker) Hurlburt who predeceased him. Sister Dawna has also passed away. He is survived by siblings Deo, Daniel, and Darlene (Blanc).
David spent four years in the US Navy and returned to Western New York in 1962. There he married Nancy Campbell. In 1968 he moved with his young family to the house on Bixby Hill in Arcade, NY. where the next forty years would be spent working and raising that family. Daughter Heidi (Kaiktsian) and son Davey (Janet) grew up in that house next to Turkey Run Golf Course. In the 1990s two new members were added to the household as the Hurlburts "adopted" Audun Hoen and Camilla Soderlund, the Scandinavian exchange students who never left the family circle. That family circle now includes eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
David's work life included Ironworking, a tree service, a painting business, and ownership of several rental properties. In addition to being a happy workaholic, he was a pilot, a taxidermist, a fisherman, and an avid bow-hunter. Somehow, he still found time to be a loving father, husband, and doting grandfather.
Summers for the past fourteen years have been spent at Silver Lake, Perry NY where he was surrounded by loving friends and neighbors. A private family funeral will be held there as well as a Celebration of Life later in the summer.
