Joao M. Vida, age 84, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 29, 2023, in Palm Bay, Florida. Joao M. Vida was born December 14, 1939, in Lisbon, Portugal to the loving parents of Manuel and Elisia Vida. With his family, Joao immigrated to the United States in 1960 and settled in Yonkers, New York where he met his wife of 59 years Teresa Vida. They also lived in Wappingers Falls, NY and finally moved to Palm Bay, FL in 2004. For 30 years, Joao worked for General Motors in Tarrytown. NY until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Portuguese American Community Center in Yonkers, NY for 63 Years. Joao enjoyed boating, and fishing and LOVED SOCCER. He played the beautiful game in his younger days and was a very faithful fan of the Sporting Clube de Portugal. Joao thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and many many friends. He was a very welcoming host, always ready to wine and dine whoever came calling. In addition to his wife Teresa, Joao is survived by daughter Lisa(Joseph)Boneri and son John Vida Jr. (Kindra) Palm Bay, FL. His three grandchildren, Victoria, Brandon, and Nicole were the joy of his life and survived their Poppy in Palm Bay, FL. Joao is also survived by his loving brother Rui Vida(Vitoria) Palm Bay, FL., several nieces, nephews, and many cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.
Joao's beloved son, Anthony Vida preceded his father in death twenty-five years ago. Funeral Visitation, will be held Sunday, January 7th at Jennings Mortuary Chapel, 1805 Canova Street Palm Bay, FL 32909. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 8th, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Palm Bay, beginning at 10:30 am. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery 1422 Miller Street NE Palm Bay, FL. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shriners Hospital for Children. Joao has supported this charity for many years.
