John Robert Sabo – 84, of Melbourne, FL, passed
peacefully August 3, 2024. Born on April 11, 1940, in West Mifflin,
PA. Son of the late John & Margaret (Onofrey) Sabo. He was a
devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, coach
& friend. He moved to Washington DC in the early 1960’s where
he met and married his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia
(Chisholm). They raised their family in Northern Virginia; Michael
“Mike” (Kerri) of Virginia Beach, VA, Sharon (James) Chamness
of Boynton Beach, FL, and David “Dave” (Laura) of Fairfax
Station, VA.
John worked as a computer data analyst for over 30 years,
and coached youth baseball for over 20 years, starting with Little
League up through the Clark Griffith Collegiate Baseball League.
He impacted the lives of many baseball players with his
encouragement, guidance & positivity. He was a Corvette
enthusiast along with his lifelong friend Ken (Debbie) Gibson, an
avid golfer, and a diehard Pittsburg Pirates fan – “Let’s go Bucs!”.
John was also a supportive friend to many. His infectious
enthusiasm, warm smile, and unwavering dedication endeared
him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
After retiring, he and his wife moved to Albemarle Plantation
in Hertford, NC, where they golfed and volunteered much of their
time at Church of the Holy Trinity - Episcopal Church, then to New
Smyrna Beach, FL, and finally to Melbourne, FL.
He is survived by his wife, 3 children, 10 grandchildren, 2
great-grandchildren, and his brother William “Bill” (Georganne)
Sabo of West Mifflin, PA. He was preceded in death by his
parents and his sister Mary Ann (Jack) Culbertson.
