Maria Chacon De Gallegos Obituary

Maria “Lola” Chacon de Gallegos, of Palm Bay, FL, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2026, at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents, many brothers and sisters, and her beloved dog, Coco. She was surrounded by her family when she passed from a new diagnosis of Leukemia.
On June 3, 1948, Maria Dolores “Lola” Chacon was born as the ninth of 13 children to Margarita A. Villarreal and Felix G. Chacon in Carichi, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Maria moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico, in 1965 to live with her sister, Maria Coyazo, and her husband. While at a dance, Maria met Saul C. Gallegos, and after a 5-month courtship, they married on May 31, 1967.
Maria and Saul started their family a year later and raised seven children over the next 17 years. Their children, Laurie, Suzanne (Susie), Saul Jr., Edward (Eddey), Rickey, Nancy, and Melinda (Mindy) grew up in the family home on Oregon Street in Alamogordo. Maria was an amazing cook and loved to take care of others, including friends, relatives, neighbors, and even the occasional band performing in town. Her house always had an open door, where everyone was welcome to sit and have a cup of coffee and a good conversation. Maria and Saul were members of the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of the Eagles for years.
In 2000, after spending most of their life in New Mexico, Maria and Saul, along with 2 daughters and a niece, moved to Palm Bay, Florida, to be near her 2 children already living there. Through the years, her life was filled with new grandchildren and, later, even great-grandchildren. She was affectionately called “Mamo” by them and was very proud and would tell everyone about them. She will be remembered for her amazing smile and love for anyone who met her.
Maria is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years; Saul C. Gallegos, daughter Laurie (Darryl) Willis, daughter Suzanne Gallegos, son Saul (Maribel) Gallegos Jr., son Eddey Gallegos (James Kiley), son Rickey Gallegos (Amy Goodinson), daughter Nancy (Jake) Gallegos Robbins and daughter Melinda Gallegos; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Sara Chacon and Ana Maria Chacon and numerous nieces and nephews
