CELEBRATION OF LIFE
On March 6, 2024, Mrs. Mary Speed was called to rest.
Mrs. Mary Lee Perry was born in Homerville, Georgia. To James and Leanna Perry on a cold winter day on December 30, 1937.
In her early years of childhood, they moved to Lakeland GA, where she attended school in the Lanier County School System. And that is where she accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age.
Years passed, she met and married Gilbert Speed and moved to Valdosta Georgia. Where as a family they attend COGIC. Mrs. Mary worked alongside her husband as a bookkeeper for his logging business, (known in that era as pulpwood). She also worked in the Lowndes County Cafeteria School System as a head cook.
Out of this union, 7 Kids were born. Calvin Speed (Danielle), Tommy Lee Speed, Lawrence Speed (Lucille), Jacqueline Speed-Isom, Daniel Speed (Angela), Leon Speed (Messo), Chester Speed ( Nita). Two adopted daughters Shericka Speed and Sherliece Speed.
Mrs. Speed was preceded in death by James & Leanna Perry (Father & Mother), Edna Perry & Dorothy Thomas (Sisters), Mr. Gilbert Speed (Husband), Tommy Lee Speed (Son)
Mrs. Mary leaves to Celebrate her life with a Host of grands, great-grands, family, and friends who will cherish her memory forever. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand and provide words of wisdom. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
In 1973, Mrs. Mary relocated to Cocoa, FL where she joined Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Then later joined Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mary's hobbies were catering to people, cooking, attending yard sales, fishing, bingo, making crafts, growing flowers, and playing cards with her group of lady friends.
There was never a time you went to her home and did not find food on the stove or cake (from scratch) on the counter. You never left empty-handed, she always had something for you.
As we gather here today to celebrate the wonderful life of Mrs. Mary Speed. Let us remember her for her kindness, generosity, and love for others. May her soul rest in peace as we reflect on the beautiful memories she has left behind.
