Richard Howes Obituary

Richard Frank Howes, 78, passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 35
years, Nadelle, by his side, on Friday, September 12, 2025, in Melbourne, Florida.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Courtney.
Rick was born on May 9, 1947, to Frank and Marjorie Howes in St. Augustine,
Florida. He was the oldest of four children. He graduated in 1965 from the oldest
Catholic High School in Florida, St. Joseph Academy, located in St. Augustine. He
was a 4-year Letterman in basketball and baseball.
After graduation, Rick enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he honorably served for
four years. After serving his country, Rick joined the Florida Highway Patrol and
retired at the rank of Captain after serving over 25 years. While working full-time
for Florida Highway Patrol, he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees
from Rollins College. Following his career with Florida Highway Patrol, Rick
worked several years at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Rick was an avid golfer and competed many years at the Myrtle Beach World
Amateur Championship. He also joined family and friends for annual golf trips to
Sebring, Florida, enjoying quality time and camaraderie with fellow golfers. After
retirement, Rick enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends.
Rick is survived by his brother Ronald, his sister Barbara Smith and her husband
George, and his brother Kenneth. Our granddaughter Kendyll, our daughter
Diana, grandsons Leo Austin and Cole, and granddaughter Brittni. Our son David
and his wife Kathryn, granddaughter Kara and grandson Braden.
Rick adored his extended family including his nephew Gerald and his wife
Elizabeth, son Jack and daughter Caroline, niece Emily Windfelder and her
husband Mark, daughters Leighton and Ainsley and niece Elyse Lickteig and her
husband Ryan, sons Owen and Theo.
Rick was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Melbourne, Florida. A service will
be held at Hope Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
followed by an Honorary Burial at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims,
Florida at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Lutheran
Church or Tunnel to Towers.
